Sienna Miller got her style status back in 2002 when she started Boho-Babe fever but her new sleeker more sophisticated look now includes elegant, sexy tailored pieces that show-off her tiny waist with high-waist trousers to belted or fitted shift dresses. Miller’s been rocking some show-stoppers on the promotional tour of her new movie, G.I Joe: The Rise of the Cobra this week such as the Axl print dress by Poltock & Walsh but look out for her stunning head-to-toe Loewe nautical outfit complete with flame red lips. SEXY beyond words! Try her looks to experiment style in a whole new different light.

And I have to mention Miller’s courageous feat in Gucci – but boy does she carry it with great splendour!

Disco and Dynasty was rocking the trends again – but Sienna Miller was outrageous by wearing this new season Gucci sequin suit head to toe! Very style conscious and wise of her to keep her hair and make-up totally minimal to balance out the strong look, though.

Lily Allen’s Chanel Handbag campaign!

Pop stars have all the luck – of course, if they’re famous! She’s the new face of Chanel’s new handbag advertising campaign. Allen, who must be an expert in how to swing Chanel arm candy from her shoulder, given her extensive collection, poses perfectly with the new quilted bag from Chanel’s new ‘Coco Cocoon’ line. ‘Those quilted duffel bags might look massive, but they’re the comfiest bags in the world to carry because of the material. She also has her own jewellery line on the way to be launched. She looks absolutely gorgeous in these shoots, almost like a fashion model and not the Lily you know – and you can tell she’s enjoying every minute of it. It does help, however, that it was Karl Lagerfeld behind the camera – a man you can trust to make you look fabulous. The luxury sportswear bags don’t hit the shelves of Chanel until October what else do you expect? An instant sell-out, no doubt.

The Little Black Dress is back with much vigour…

Love the LBDs the models were wearing in the picture – they are an easy-to-wear, goes-with-everything, style staple. What’s more with AW arriving soon, how can we miss the sequinned shoulders/ a flash of bare back/ intricate webbing and must-have peaked shoulders?! Try the Sequin Shoulder Bodycon Dress and Cosmic Shoulder Dress (as seen on model on the right), both from Topshop!

And take a breather from all the glitz and glamour for some casual chic!

The resurgence of cropped tops! Wear one with frayed denim shorts or a high waisted miniskirt for a chill summery look. If baring your midriff freaks you out, try layering any of these fun cropped looks over a tight body-con dress and heels (great fashion tip, but difficult to pull off!) for a night out on the town. – content credits to blog.forever21.com

I will miss La Senza!…

Posted: July 28, 2009 in Uncategorized

Been so busy going out everyday the past week that I hardly have time updating my blog! But I really have to say that my feat at La Senza was officially over last Wedesday evening, when I completed the 3 days’ notice and “served my time”. The 3 days were surprisingly enjoyable – I thought it was an obligatory way of saying goodbye and leaving peacefully even though I was terminated just like that – but I think it’s the attitude that counts. I served the customers like I would on any other work days and tried my best in pushing sales and I guess my supervisor and colleagues did recognize that and appreciated my hard work! :) I think I managed to sell 5 prestige cards in that 3 days, not remarkable, but I feel rather proud of myself for attempting to sell…

On Monday I had lunch with Wanie and got to know her on a deeper level – she really is a sweet, down to earth and straightforward person and I like all those qualities of her. It’s just too bad that on Tuesday and Wednesday she was off duty so I didn’t manage to see her. Tuesday was rather uneventful as far as I can remember, ‘cept that my customer who bought the Nu Bra came back and created a little storm but I was glad that the management believed me so my ass was saved! Joyce also dropped by to check on things and she got the new Betty Boop bathrobe that’s so lovely! – at half price! Wednesday – Kiki came and we had a fantastic time chatting about many things – including “end of the world prophecies” and the mayan tribal people’s historical predictions. She does have a wealth of knowledge in that area! And it really so happened that that morning there was a solar eclipse! It was supposedly the longest total solar eclipse during the 21st century, not to be surpassed until June 2132!

Back to my story, because it was my last day at work, I treated Azura and Kiki to bubble tea! No pictures this time because I forgot to bring my camera! ahhhh!! The last surprise, however, came from my supervisor who was so sweet to ask me to select any item from the shop for her to give me as a farewell gift and a token of appreciation! It felt really weird to receive a present from her (you know, paiseh la!) and so I simply chose a panty from the new collection – the one I’ve always wanted – a super romantic silk and lace panty with alot of floral details, was totally out of stock – we even tried to call all the other branches but PLAN FAILED! :( Anyway, this is what I received and it really touched my heart!

Looking foward to seeing them again soon and many thanks to my supervisor for approving my testimonial!

And just for a little surprise I think Colleen Francisca appeared at the shop with her friend! Not sure if it was really her but it was exciting to see a Miss Singapore World! Tall, tanned, very slim – but nothing at the shop caught her fancy though her friend bought some panties.

Coco before Chanel – that’s the most anticipated movie right now on my list – way bigger than Harry Potter or the Resident Evil series. The biopic of legendary designer Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel stars Audrey Tautou -and second only to the French ingénue as star of the film are the costumes, created by Catherine Leterrier. The film spans the years between Coco Chanel’s provincial childhood and the beginnings of her success as a couturier in Paris. It is a love story too – or rather, a trio of them folded into one. Coco has two lovers – a wealthy French playboy and horse breeder, and another, a British businessman with aristocratic connections.

But her paramount passion is style. Thankfully, the script spares us the hail of fashion decrees for which she later became famous but it leaves us in no doubt about her central philosophy – that no luxury deserves the name if it isn’t comfortable.

I can’t wait for the movie to be released in Singapore! The story of Chanel and how this mega luxury brand all began…

Yes!! The annual SHAPE RUN on Sunday was GREAT!  I only had 4 hours of sleep or so but woke up at 6am anyway for the run. Surprisingly I didn’t feel too tired and met up with Steph at the train station before strolling to Millenia Walk. Her bf Junsheng was really sweet to accompany her there and was practically playing “nanny” to her and taking care of her every need! Lucky babe! But of course, Steph deserves a great boyfriend anytime, that honey cupcake munchkins! :)

We took some photos then it was time to run! The pace and everything was rather slow but we managed to overtake quite alot of people. The first half of the 5km (yes, I’m too unfit to run 10km) was pretty comfortable for me but after that I started to feel queasy and hot and cold. Yes, reminds me of Katy Perry’s song! Argh. But yeah luckily there was a water break booth soon after I felt weird so I had a few minutes of walking and drinking time. Towards the end of the run the feeling got worse but I managed to finish the race! Steph was really patient and sweet to wait for me but at the finishing point – that was it. Butterflies flew full force in my stomach and BRAHHH that morning’s breakfast of fish burger came out. The good news was, I was instantly alive after that and felt so damn good. Bad digestion process, I guess.

Thanks, Steph, for the photos!

Thanks, Steph, for the photos!

8000 chicks and a few scattered roosters (or cocks)! haha!

8000 chicks and a few scattered roosters (or cocks)! haha!

I think the most attractive thing about Shape Run’s the runners’ kit and free 6 mths’ worth of magazines! That’s why 8000 places were snapped up within days of the opening of registration. We even received free wet wipes after the run and this so adorable and pretty bracelet from Nike that says “What’s amazing isn’t that YOU finished. What’s amazing is that YOU had the courage to start.” NICE!

Cheers to Nike!

Cheers to Nike!

After that Steph and Junsheng left for MacRitchie for his canoe race so I met up with Baby for breakfast at Dome. Pictures are with him so I’ll update this post after I get them. But the breakfast set and coffee there were soo GOOD. Yum yum, and worth every cent that we paid! Reading newspapers and having delicious breakfast after a run felt heavenly!!

I’m lusting after… The quilted clutch bag.

Swop! @ Tampines 1!

Posted: July 22, 2009 in Uncategorized

My mum has always fussed over my wardrobe – not that mine’s like the Olsen Twins or anything, at least not quite THERE yet, but because it’s always jam-packed, literally, messy, and all too colourful – maybe she secretly likes my clothes? Heehee. So knowing my wardrobe as well as I know myself, I had to clear out some of them – those which I know I will never wear again unless I become 10 cm taller, lose 10kg or think about wearing it again only in 10 years time. Talk about my obsession with the number 10. Anyway, I did rummage through, and together with my mum’s junkie, managed to conjour 35 pieces of unwanted clothing! YAYNESS! I feel fresh as a morning glory knowing that I’m clearing stuff and possibly, find something new and exciting at Swop! @ Tampines 1!

HIGHLIGHTS:
* Donations from popular fashion brands, including Dorothy Perkins, Topshop, G2000, DIVA, Adidas and Esprit
* Refreshments – free flow of ice-creams!
* Live DJ music
* Boyfriend/Hubby Corner, with comfy chairs and magazines to keep them entertained

Admission: $5 (non-refundable) → the CATCH :( and at least 5 fashion items in good condition

All proceeds will go to Operation Hope Foundation (www.ohf.org.sg), a Singapore based charity organization that helps orphans and the poor through relief and development projects in third world countries.

A token will be issued for every fashion item donated. The items must be in good condition. Participants can use the tokens to exchange for other fashion items at the SWOP party. Every additional item without token will fetch $5 for the charity. Items that are not taken at the end of the session will be donated to Salvation Army.

Swopping is an ethical and environmentally-conscious way of getting new wardrobe by cutting down waste. Most of all, it is for a good cause as all admission fees and unredeemed items will be donated to the charity.

YES. I know it’s over already, but there’re going to be more Swops coming up so I’ll keep myself updated till the next one!

Thus it was lunch with Sara and Baby at Secret Recipe before going! :) First time meeting Sara and it was such a pleasant time lunching together and talking about everything under the sun! It’s so cool that she shares the same tastes and preferences with me – BRIGHT, POP COLOURS!

Not to forget the foodie! Love the cute starfish hashbrowns!

Not to forget the foodie! Love the cute starfish hashbrowns!

Swop! starts at 4.30pm. So as exactly as they described, our clothes are checked for their quality (have to be in good condition without stains, although I still spotted clothes with stains while I was swopping) and those that they approved were counted and we were given the respective number of tokens. The swopping took place at the roof terrace of Tampines 1, flea market style, where the clothes were piled in heaps while you take your pick, count the number of pieces you had chosen and simply pass the correct number of tokens to the person in charge of that particular section. Besides clothes, there were also shoes and accessories! I managed to grab quite a many of stuff I like, and I simply dove for labels when I saw them. Got a few from G2000, Espirit, Adidias, Polo Ralph Lauren and Mango!

Overall the clothes were rather old, most in very large or small sizes and not as many sponsored items as stated. Maybe because we went half an hour late and the early birds have grabbed them all! You really have to sieve through the piles, so have lots of patience! Nevertheless it was quite a good experience because knowing that I’m swopping for charity left me contented. At least the rag and bone man doesn’t profit from my clothing and hopefully the poor and needy will really benefit from events like these! :)

TGIF!!!

Posted: July 20, 2009 in Uncategorized

So tired! It’s can be exhuasting going out everyday even though deep down I really love it! Being busy is fun and makes me feel fulfilled, especially when it’s meaningful things like hanging out with friends and loved ones, exercising, doing the things I love etc. Friday afternoon I met up with dear for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince – it was so disappointing!! The action wasn’t much and the plot was worse. Ok, overall I still enjoy the movie because it was long (I love 2hr ++ long movies and I am seldom bored unless it’s really hopeless), there’s Emma Watson to oogle at, and Baby’s beside me :) After that we had Sakae Sushi! I am never sick of sushi, and Baby loves sashimi so we’re always visiting Japanese restaurants. Yes, how about owning one for a change so that we can profit from our food cravings instead of paying for occasionally bad service and not-so-fresh sushi?! Hmmm.

@ Sakae Sushi, but I prefer Sushi Tei :)

@ Sakae Sushi, but I prefer Sushi Tei :)

Friday night was vacant because Baby’s busy making moolas to make me happy, so I organised an outing for Tiao Zui’s interested parties – actually wanted it to be short and sweet because I simply love playing board games (the intellectually stimulating ones especially) but I got more than what I bargained for! After Minds it was already about 1am and we still went to eat tau hauy and pool at Bukit Timah Shopping Centre followed by supper at Al-Ameen. I reached home at 4.45am and the door was double bolted (my parents are very ‘safe’ people)! I had to call my house 3x and almost woke my whole family up before my Dad picked up the phone grumpily and let me in :( After that it was so tiring but I still went online till like almost 6am before turning in. Oh did I mention that I was stopped by this guy as I was walking past Cathay on the way to Minds –

“Hello! I saw you walking past me and I thought you have great fashion sense! My name’s XXXX, what’s yours?”

“It’s okay, thanks!”

I really appreciate that. Thanks :) HAHA.

DIRTY MINDS! HAHAHAHA!!!

According to Topshop’s style advisor, expect the lace up boot, the one-shoulder dress, the structured mini, sequins, the trench coat and the hareem trouser!

Considering the humid weather of Singapore and dress culture, it’s really difficult to imagine walking around in lace up boots and trench coats, even for fashionistas, can you?! But just for your information, lace up boots are the most wanted AW09 boots, either peep-toe or with a stacked wooden heel. Trenches or Macs are as usual, AW classics. But they can be as pretty as these!

But the the one-shoulder dress, the structured mini, sequins and hareem trouser sure are hot on both the runway and on our local streets. Here’re some celebrity insights as to how to wear them

Bold shoulders…

  • Power dressing is back with exaggerated shoulders on dresses, blouses and jackets
  • The shoulder trend that started on Christophe Decarnin’s Balmain catwalk for spring/summer 2009 is going strong into autumn/winter 2009-10
  • Keep bottom-half silhouettes short or narrow to maintain a feminine shape
  • Opt for softly billowing sleeves for a gentle take on the extreme styles at Roksanda Illinic and Dolce & Gabbana

And finally, Velvet. It gets revamped.

  • Velvet for autumn/winter 2009-10 is cleverly revitalised with glossy colour, pretty burn-out effects and graphic splicing
  • This season’s velvet is all about sleek cocktail dresses – see Proenza Schouler, Ralph Lauren and Stella McCartney for inspiration
  • Jewel colours –   grape, berry, teal, saphire – look freshest

Pups, hons!

Pups, hons!

Lay down, be still
Don’t worry talk they will
I’ll be loving you until
Morning’s first light
Breaks tomorrow
I’ll take care of you tonight

THANKS DEAR :) for making the arrangements just for the 2 of us. Love you so much, and I can’t wait for our next getaway! :)

Spending more time with Baby before he spends the next 2 weeks in NTU camps – boardgaming (our favourite haunt) before dance class on Tuesday and we had to rush through our dinner and games in only 2 hours! Good thing our dance venue’s only a few minutes’ walk away :) We’re now into Tango and great that I managed to catch up the new steps from Calcy! But I HAVE to miss next week’s lesson again because of work – yes I’m working Monday to Wednesday next week and getting terminated immediately after that because they have no budget for part timers this month. PFFT! Bye FJB, Hello Wing Tai when I graduate!

Boardgaming trains your intellect - I HOPE!

Boardgaming trains your intellect - I HOPE!

And today I went for the job interview at Sim Lim Tower. The office was quite secluded and dilapidated, sparsely furnished – I should have left when I first entered because it left such a bad impression! Anyway the job was really not my cup of tea – it was door to door selling vouchers as a way of marketing/promotion for spas, restaurants etc. $10 per sale just doesn’t quite cut it. But the interviewer was quite funny – when I first entered the room he suddenly exclaimed, “NUS! WOW!”, followed by “I always thought that students from NUS are very brainy”. I recovered enough from the surprise to humbly reply that “Thanks, but we need to work hard to achieve good results too.” Sheesh. Not the most witty comment but hey, I’m not from Oxford or Harvard so cut the “bootlicking” compliments! I’m proud that I’m from NUS but somehow I thought that was unnecessary. Or maybe I should just learn to accept compliments more readily?

By the time I had lunch I was starving on the verge of fainting but I survived to dine at Ikea. No signature meatballs but let the pictures tell the story okay! Was also telling Baby that I so long for the day when I no longer go to Ikea just to eat, but to buy furniture for my very own home! How about purple walls and orange furniture?! I’m serious!

I love everything Swedish including iKEA!

I love everything Swedish including iKEA!

And I saw Miss Zhu at IKEA! OMGOSH! She was having lunch there with her friends – What a total coincidence but I forgot to take a picture with her! She’s still teaching at AJ and yes, still looking good and sweet!

Camwhoring while Baby's driving!

Camwhoring while Baby was driving!

In the evening I had tuition as usual as  my twice a week commitment – watched television and dinner and some family time after that :)

My daily night activity is now blogging – my new-found hobby and past time but I think I need some discipline because it’s making me sleep really late – when I do online shopping/surfing net/playing games too etc. Argh. I’m online so often and so long I’m becoming like a … CYBERNAUT?!?

Just kidding.

Tomorrow night’s different – it’s Tiao Zui time! – again.

And before I forget – this is PHOTO OF THE DAY – SOOO CUUUTE!!!

Wigs are the latest must-have hair accessory – or so I heard. Unlike hair extensions, which are time-consuming, expensive and high-maintenance, wigs are more versatile and make a much bolder fashion statement! Lily Allen, for example, who has become queen of the wig this summer – changing wigs mid-festival performance depending on her mood (pink, blonde and purple at Glastonbury). Then, on a night out with new BFF Kate Moss, Lily took inspiration from her partying partner by wearing a platinum blonde number. It’s not just Lily whose been enjoying a wig-athon, Lady Gaga and Britney Spears, who has been familiar with the advantages of the wig ever since that hair-shaving incident, have regularly been chopping and changing their ‘hair’. – credits to graziadaily.co.uk

Images credit to forever21.com & topshop.com

Images credit to forever21.com & topshop.com

I know I know, it’s so exaggerated to imagine donning wigs in hot, humid Singapore and expect not to get weird stares from others. Fashion statement or an ultimate disaster? I think it’s easy to lean on the latter, because wigs are difficult to pull off – we’re not superstars and perhaps we shouldn’t blindly copy them, should we? So may I suggest these lovely hair accessories instead? They add spunk to your outfit yet not so loud that you could be screaming when you’re actually not, literally. So try these headbands from Forever 21 and Topshop; expect other designs from Urban Outfitters, River Island and Asos.com.

And how about some plaids and braids to look a tad bohemian chic? It has become the latest hair trend this summer – Nicole Richie, Mary-Kate Olsen and Lauren Conrad have all been busy twisting their hair in favour of the old school hairstyle. Sleek and classic plaits were shown at Marc Jacobs and Emporio Armani, while funky plaits were shown throughout the Richard Nicoll and Luella collection’s.

The trend is easy to follow as there are hundreds of ways to wear plaits – from loose and girly to smooth and sophisticated. If  fancy full plaits are just too much then follow Lauren and Whitney’s example and just plait one side of your hair. – credits to look.co.uk

So many ways of braiding your hair!

Was supposed to meet Hong Chang today at Holland Village for lunch but I slept too late last night and was rewarded with a headache. Was also intending to crash Sociology Camp (Sociolo Royale 2009!) but Mum gave me too many household chores to do and I had to complete my Asos shopping before the spree closes (yes, I shop online religiously but I seriously need to take a break before I declare bankruptcy!)

Was also thinking of heading down to Zouk tonight but I just felt plain lazy and most of my friends aren’t going so that is a serious lack of motivation. I ended up honing my skills at Poker by downloading poker games from bigfishgames. Hahaha!

So I spent my afternoon doing some “admin” stuff like sending an email to NUS IT Care for help ‘cos my NUS NET password expired and I can’t do anything like logging in, not even to my webmail. And I contacted Joyce the brand manager about the 3-days-notice-pay and I was granted work at La Senza for another 3 days next week. Schedule is yet to be confirmed. But I sent my job application – one for a sales position at a branded goods boutique and another at an events company “dealing with famous brand in Singapore – movies, lifestyle, fitness etc”. Sounds so attractive, with weekly pay and all that, but the interview’s tomorrow so I shall wait and see if it can occupy me for the next 3 weeks until school reopens. In a way I can’t wait for semester to start because I can’t wait to graduate, looking at all those photos from commencement ceremonies..awww!

Anyway, I was walking to the nearest ATM machine in the evening to deposit my hard earned tuition moola and I passed by my alma mater – Pei Chun Public School – and a wave of nostalgia just rushed into me! The same winding road, the same national anthem and school song sung in Mandarin – oh my! How sweet and how long ago! But I guess I’ll never forget my primary school days! NOW, the disastrous thing that happened next was when I tried to deposit my cash – the darn ATM machine swallowed my moola just like that! I forgot what it said as a notice of apology but some receipt came out that said “unsuccessful transaction. Pls keep this slip as a record. Your cash is safely kept in the machine. Pls report at the branch or call us at XXXXX…We apologize for the inconvenience caused. Thank you.” OMG. How unlucky was that! But I took alot of comfort at the phrase “safely kept”! I called up DBS and they could only get back to me on what was the matter/what happened in 1-3 days time. GOSH! I really pray hard that my money wasn’t eaten up just like that! Imagine a cash-gobbling machine that appears to be hungry right now! Sobs*

It was a good thing Katie’s fantastic photographs came into my mailbox in time to cheer me up!
